Brian Galbraith

Brian is the owner of Galbraith Family Law which is a law firm of four lawyers all focusing on family law. The motto of Galbraith Family Law is “Resolving Family Conflict with Heart.”

Brian was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and is the youngest of four children. During his youth, he raised, trained and showed registered Quarter Horses throughout North America, and won numerous awards.

Brian attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario from 1983 through 1989, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and his Law degree. He then returned to his western roots and articled at a large legal firm in Calgary, becoming a member of the Alberta bar in 1990. Not long afterwards, he and a partner set up a law practice in Calgary intent on practicing general litigation law. However, he soon discovered that what he really loved was working closely with his clients and helping them get through a separation or divorce. Brian has been practicing Family Law ever since and has helped hundreds of families.

Brian moved to Barrie in 1992 and became a member of the Ontario Bar the next year. He is a founding member of The Mediation Centre of Simcoe County Inc., which introduced family mediation to our area. It was awarded the contract to conduct all mediations for Family Court in both Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.

Brian also served on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation and was its president for two years. Recently, Brian was instrumental in bring Collaborative Practice to Simcoe County.

Brian was the founding president of Collaborative Practice Simcoe County. Brian has also served as president of the Simcoe County Family Law Lawyers’ Association.

Brian teaches the Collaborative Team Process to lawyers and other professionals through The Divorce Team.

Brian was married in 1987 and has three boys. He and his spouse separated in 2003. As a result, Brian understands first-hand how his clients feel when going through the separation process. Brian’s boys are his passion. He supports his boys’ many activities, enjoys white water canoe trips with his family and spends much of the winter on the ski slopes.

Brian found new romance in 2004 and is very happy, enjoying the challenges and pleasures of family life with his new wife. Brian and Nicole brought another boy into this world so now Brian is the father to four boys.

Brian continues to enjoy his thriving law practice, which focuses solely on family law.
I love helping clients resolve their family law issues through the Collaborative Process. It is efficient, cost-effective and my clients like the results. It simply works best.
