Michelle Roy
My name is Michelle Roy. I am the principal and founder of Solace Settlement Services which specializes in settling family law issues following separation and divorce out of court. I am a Family Law Lawyer, OAFM Accredited Family Mediator and Arbitrator who has been working in the legal field for 15 years. I feel it is best for separating spouses, especially their children, if they are able to reach an amicable settlement of their family law issues out of court.
Compassionate and sensitive to my clients' needs, interests and concerns, I am dedicated to helping my clients reach a settlement that will enable them to move past a difficult time in their lives and find solace.
I assist clients to reach creative resolutions of their family law issues that best meet their goals and concerns through settlement negotiation and mediation. I also provide arbitration, domestic violence screening services and basic estate planning services.
I completed a 100 hour Family Mediation Internship with two of the most reputable Mediators in Toronto: Hilary Linton of Riverdale Mediation and Dr. Barbara Jo Fidler of Family Solutions.
Commencing the Fall of 2011, I have been presenting the Mandatory (Family Law) Information Program for the two Ontario Courts of Justice in Toronto as well as for the Owen Sound Court. In addition, I have been providing family mediation services at the Family Courts in Owen Sound and Woodstock.
In my spare time I do my best to keep physically active by attending spinning, boot camp and weight lifting classes, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and kayaking. I enjoy watching movies and am a regular TIFF goer.
Having worked in the legal field for almost 15 years, I know that using the court
system to resolve family law disputes can be unpredictable, expensive, tedious, and emotionally draining.
I feel it is best for separating spouses, especially their children, if they are able to reach an amicable settlement of their family law issues out of court. That's why I think Collaborative Practice is so great. The participants are committed to attempting to settle their family law issues out of court.
