Thomas Venema is a MSW RSW Registered, Clinical Social Worker. He offers insurance coverage available through many insurance plans. Thomas is a therapist with over 34 years experience as an individual, couple and family therapist. Have supervised and trained over 20 therapists as partner/owner of a large private practice from 1979 through October, 2012.

Thamas Venema has extensive training and experience in the areas of: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Strategic Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Insight Therapy, Behaviour Modification, Brief Intervention Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Anger Management, Stress and Anxiety Therapy, Grief Therapy, Hypnosis Interventions, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.

While in practice, he served as mental health consultant/trainer with Niagara Firefighters, dealing with CISD situations. Thomas served in this capacity with Niagara Firefighters at Ground Zero after 9-11. Also served as therapist and consultant to: children [aged 8 through 18], staff and management with an expanded, Niagara foster home system, for over 25 years. For five years he was a regular participant in a live Cable TV show regarding personal life-style, and relationships.

Previous to private practice, Thomas worked in adult mental health systems, intake/protection worker at a large family service agency, also did intake, training and placement in adoption and foster care.

In his practice, Thomas Venema has dealt successfully, with a primary caseload of individuals, families, and couples who have struggled with issues of: depression/anxiety, stress issues, conflict and communication management, anger management, grief/loss issues, self-esteem, parent/adolescent conflict, childhood anxiety and behavioural issues. He is a business and labour consultant regarding employer and staff mediation and management.

Personal interests include: hiking, jogging, camping, windsurfing, skiing, hockey, gourmet cooking, reading, woodworking and wine-making.
